It feels like we can't go anywhere these days without seeing reminders to #BeKind. Whether it's on t-shirts, in commercials, children's books, songs, or even food products, the message is everywhere. And for good reason—kindness matters.
November 13th marked World Kindness Day, a day to reflect on the power of simple, caring actions. A local school teacher wanted to help her students understand the benefits of doing for others, they chose Veterans. They created a beautiful mural of art with their own little hands. The mural will greet Veterans in our office this weekend as they pick up food for their families.
But is the #BeKind movement something that will stay with us? Are people being kinder today than in the past? According to a recent poll, 93% of Americans reported performing a kind act in the past three months—showing that kindness is indeed growing.
And the benefits of kindness aren’t just emotional—they’re scientific. Acts of kindness trigger endorphins, the brain’s natural painkillers, and they lower cortisol (the stress hormone) by 23%.
So, kindness doesn't just make others feel good—it makes us feel better too.
Kindness also plays a role in our everyday lives. In fact, 77% of those surveyed said they were more likely to apply for a job at a company that values kindness. It’s clear that kindness has a ripple effect, creating an environment where people want to be and do their best.
Think of kindness as a contagious force for good. It can transform a moment, brighten someone's day, or even change a life. It’s not just about the big acts but the little ones, like wishing someone a good day, holding a door open, or sharing an umbrella. These small gestures can add up to something incredible.
As a nonprofit, we believe deeply in the power of kindness to make the world a better place. At United Military Care, we focus on serving Veterans in Georgia, and we’ve seen firsthand how a little kindness can go a long way in brightening someone’s day and lifting their spirits.
This weekend, we’ll be hosting Veterans who are struggling financially and need help with groceries and holiday meals. Volunteers from both large corporations and small civic groups will be showing up with open hearts, offering kindness and support to each and every Veteran. These simple acts of kindness will stay with them, and they will pass it on to others.
If you’re looking for a way to #BeKind and help a Georgia Veteran, we’d love for you to join us. Visit our website to submit a volunteer application or give us a call at 770-973-0014.
Every act of kindness makes a difference.
At the end of the day, kindness wins. So, #BeKind in everything you do—and you’ll be amazed at the difference it can make!
